Teatron Theatre, Israel and
Theatre Tübingen, Germany:
Children of the Beast

Click to see large picture The play is based on the novel 'See Under Love' by the Israeli author David Grossmann.
The main theme is: How does the second generation after the Holocaust get along? How do the grandchildren of the victims handle the secrecy? Do these people still believe in humanity?
The performance combines great acting by Yehuda Almagor, Israel, and fantastic puppets and puppetry of Frank Soehnle, Germany, showing touching, poetic beauty in the midst of the atrocities.
There are three stories. The first is about nine year old Momik, who tries to penetrate his grandfather's silence. The second is the adult Momik, who attempts to reconstruct and write his grandfather's story and the third is about the grandfather, Anschel Wassermann, who has to tell his life story to a Nazi officer in order to be allowed to die.
The set design is very simple with séances of shadow theatre and computer projections.
PThe audience is deeply moved by this performance, which has been very warmly received internationally.
